Not sure why a tractor forum has a “politics” section. It’s filled with your typical die hard MAGA conspiracy theorists raging against the “libturds”.
Here’s a palate cleanser for you. (not mine, but I do own one of these)

I like libturd. They’re stupid to use that term, because libtard is so much less politically correct. I might make some stickers made with that term on it.

The perversity of the Trumpist argument astonishes me. They whine about how the Fake News — as opposed to the Alternative Fact News — are after President Trump, when Mr. Trump does his level best to antagonize them on a daily basis . And when what they’re doing makes zero sense, and you’re standing there dumbfounded, then , you’re a stupid libtard.
But I thank these tractor people for their term libturd , because it’s more politically correct than libtard .

the ones who aren’t foreign disinformation trolls just feel disaffected. They either grew up when they were pretty much in charge of everything (white boomers*) or grew up being told they were supposed to be in charge of everything (white boomers’ kids.) And now that they see their “control” of America slipping away, they have no idea what to do other than be loudmouth jingoistic assholes. And they like Trump because he’s a complete asshole to the people they don’t like- the people who are “stealing America” from them. And that looks like “power” to them. They know they can’t change it or stop it, so all they can think to do is shit all over everything before they’re gone.
it’s the same “if I can’t have it, no one can” mentality of a spoiled rotten 12 year old boy.
(* yes, I know I rail on Boomers a lot. I know not everyone of that cohort is of the same mindset. I don’t even know what the ratio is. If it doesn’t apply to you, don’t take it as applying to you, I never said the commutative property applies. But there’s no denying that the noisiest of the Trump support base is made up of people in that age bracket.)

I’d enjoy having an actual conversation with you sometime, rather than this disjointed, attenuated reply stream.
I’ve come to the conclusion on my own, and not from opinion editorials written in the NY Times, that the Constitution of the United States of America is an inherently racist document, a sacred document though it rightly is rightly considered to be . And the class of people you mention can receive full cover by being Originalists or whatever, and hide behind their constitutional fe rvor, and face zero consequence of being considered racists. Further, when (white) people come out of the gate claiming that “ Barack Obama did more to divide the country...” or that using race alone to designate and categorize people is intellectually weak, well, I think it only supports what you’ve written. Correlation doesn’t equal causation, right?
The Right, at least the conservatives whose brains haven’t been eaten by zombies, have a list of legitimate, well deserved complaints about Liberals and Progressivism. But they also feel a need, as a movement, to just toss wrenches and grenades into everything . And then what? Begin a new round of complaining about how everything is screwed up?
There’s an Original Old Guy in Tennessee that I correspond with who likes to harp about the Second Amendment, and Communists in California and “shall not infringe,” and all of that. (I purchased a shotgun two weeks ago in a private party deal and executed a Dealer Record Of Sale.) I told him that I was grateful for living in a country where, under any terms at all, I was allowed to purchase and own a firearm _at all_, unlike sh**hole countries like Canada or Australia or England or New Zealand (extreme irony intended, because those are all wonderful countries and I am further pillorying President Trump). So, yeah.

for the most part. they know they can’t stop it. so all they have left is to try to put in as many roadblocks as possible. The one actual key policy reason they support Trump is the judges he will appoint. they’re usually life-long positions, so they console themselves at night that even after they’re gone they’ll still be able to fuck with people they don’t like.
(and of course, several years ago Jon Stewart pointed out that the Republican party MO is to run on a platform of “government sucks and can’t do anything right,” when they get into power they do everything they can to de-fund and break everything. Then point to their own destruction as evidence that they were right. it’s one hell of a tautological mind-fuck they’ve got going.)
That’s why I wonder why I bother right now commenting on places like The Truth About Cars. one guy over there said yesterday that because gas prices have dropped so much, that gas taxes should be cut across the country because “you’re paying more in tax than you are for gas.” It’s like, you got your “big” tax cut two years ago, they just passed an enormous stimulus/rescue bill, and you want to cut taxes even more? Are you going to get off of your fucking ass and fix roads and shit yourself?

I’ve seen a few for sale on the local classified from time to time. They are cool and I have the drawing for the adapters if I ever feel a desire to make some myself. These old garden tractors have an enormous array of attachments you could buy and t hey were built with PTOs on the front and back to run them. You could get anything from snowblower to loader to forklift attachments.

Yeah that bit about the constitution - I don’t know the details about your reasoning, but as a relatively new citizen (going on my 2nd year) the obsession with this document has seemed strange to me in this country. Most countries have constitutions, and they change - just as ours has...but the original document is looked upon as something that should be set in stone for all of time and god himself wrote it.
I look at when it was signed, the first few words of it, and compare that against say...the date of the emancipation proclamation. That is all I personally need to see how flawed it was in intent no matter how uplifting the words may seem.
Of course even airing these thoughts out loud in most circles in this country is absolutely taboo.

I can’t say I’ve seen much hate directed at each other here (correct me if I am wrong). There is a lot of hate directed at a certain politician, right or wrong, but from what I’ve seen at least no name calling or that sort of thing.
The discussions sometimes get heated though with “how in the world do you believe that?” incredulity, but it’s certainly not hate.
On that forum though there was one guy arguing against the crowd without name calling or denigrating anyone in his responses and nearly every response to him was something along the lines of, “Y ou’re just a libturd who can’t see the FACTS!”

There has been plenty of name calling, although not at each other. However, when person ventures in to the midst of one of our hate orgies and makes an opposing argument, the boom comes down hard and fast on his head. I can think of at least one instance in the last week where such a person was called a “liar” and “willfully ignorant”. Political posts here have been developing into a sort of tyranny where agreement with the prevailing view is encouraged, but dissent is swiftly shouted down.
This is the main reason I stopped reading the other Kinja blogs. It’s bringing me down.

I looked up tautology :
needless repetition of an idea, especially in words other than those of the immediate context, without imparting additional force or clearness, as in “widow woman.”
Strikes me as an apt term. People everywhere need to spend more time thinking and experimenting and reaching their own conclusions. I’ll say this much: the era of Trump has gotten me reading further right than I might otherwise have.

Yeah, but you just have to look at us “Boomers,” all grey-haired and fat, and you can mark a lot of it up to simple senility (and/or obesity) . Whereas when you see the younger generations of Trumpists, you know, the too-clean-cut Richard Spencer types, or the occasional mug shot of a pale guy with pinched thin lips and his eyes too close together who’s been pulled by an FBI sting, buying explosives on-line to blow up a nursing home or a church or something, now those fuckers are really creepy.

I think it’s more that there are overt laws that fight to even out the “subtle” disadvantages. So from the “majority”(older, white, middle class) perspective they see all these laws helping others get an advantage over them without thinking of how they have the subtle advantage already.

I think this is combination of the political leanings of oppo, the current political atmosphere, and how online forums work. It’s disheartening that any such thought is taken as me being ungrateful, or not appreciative of this country - or simply “not understanding” . Not by all, but many.
It’s OK to accept that people are/were flawed, that in all its good intentions these founding documents also completely shut out entire groups of people (putting it mildly). Given that premise we also cannot treat these documents as the be-all, end-all at the same time. There are many people in this country to whom these founding documents do not hold the same level of reverence and that should be an acceptable position .
I grew up in Sri Lanka, moved to the US for college at 17, and now here I am at 35 having lived more than half my life here. Citizenship was a long road (and I am aware of how fortunate and privileged I am to have been able to get it), so glad to finally have it behind me.

Welcome to the USA! Belated, I realize, but welcome just the same. I hope life is good for you here.
Any religion or tribe or group needs the fresh input of converts in order to maintain perspective. Just to hold the documents in reverence does not mean that they cannot progress to stay with the times, in my opinion.

You are right, that does happen. People tend to work in teams though, after a debate gets going, to shout down a foe if he won’t be silenced initially. It takes the form of team members cross posting to reply comments of the opponent, basically interweaving the one on one conversations to intensify the argument. It’s a common forum feature.

Thank you, sir! This country is my home and I love it. It’s the only place I’ve known as a functioning adult, it’s where I met my wife (and her family is from, going back a long time), and where my daughter was born and is being raised. So I absolutely have a vested interest in making it the best country I can help make it.
Speaking of religion...any bets on how long we will take to have a non-Christian president? Pretty baffling that it appears to be an unspoken prerequisite to survive in our political climate - even our current president is playing (very bad) lip service to it!

FWIW since I know you’re referring to me, I called that person a liar because he was indeed lying. As in, he said something that was trivially proven false, and said it again even after having it shown to be false, and then had the nerve to tell me I was a fool who didn’t know which way was up.
I don’t see why we should give lies equal weight. but if that’s what you want to defend, so be it.

I am saying a true fact that happened. I do not see why you are being aggressive toward me.
When you attack someone’s information as false or their presentation misleading, that is part of a clean debate. When you assert that someone’s use of incorrect information, or at least an interpretation that you deem as incorrect, reflects negatively on them as a person, then you are are trying to advance an argument by impugning the person himself. That is an ad hominem attack, and is not clean debating. It foments personal anger and enmity amongst our forum membership, and it poisons the environment we’ve worked so hard to create. I think such instances should be avoided at all costs. That was my point, not the debate itself.
